Disability Confident

The Disability Confident scheme supports employers to make the most of the talents people with disabilities and mental health conditions can bring to the workplace.

Developed by the UK Government’s Department for Work and Pensions, the scheme encourages employers to think differently about how they employ and retain disabled and neuro-diverse people.

At Â鶹´«Ã½AV we are committed to building disability confidence and wish to broaden and deepen our existing commitment as an employer to support disabled colleagues. Our aim is to reach Leader status in the Disability Confident scheme.

The Disability Confident scheme is an example of Â鶹´«Ã½AV demonstrating commitment to ensure disabled people are treated fairly and have access to the same opportunities as non-disabled people. By using the Disability Confident logo we make it clear that we welcome disabled applicants for all roles across Â鶹´«Ã½AV

In particular we will:

  • Ensure that our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible
  • Guarantee to offer an interview to all applicants with a disability provided they meet the essential criteria for a role
  • anticipate and provide reasonable adjustment as required
  • support any existing employee who acquires a disability or long term health condition enabling them to stay in work.

Disabled applicants should indicate on their application by completing the Equal Opportunities Monitoring form if they wish their application to be given consideration under the Disability Confident scheme.

If you’re currently in the application process, then you’re welcome to contact our Recruitment Team about what adjustments you would require at the interview in as much detail as possible to enable arrangements to be put into place. We’re mindful that not everyone is readily able to take the online assessments that we sometimes use, and are happy to discuss alternative methods. So if you need to get in touch, then please reach out to our Recruitment Team by emailing AskHR@nocn.org.uk

Our commitment to Disability Confident does not stop with our Recruitment process. Our culture and values support an inclusive environment. All our colleagues receive mandatory training in Equality and Diversity and Mental Health Awareness. We have, and will continue to, support people to gain work experience through employment schemes such as Internships, Kickstart and Apprenticeship schemes.

We offer support to our colleagues via Occupational Health, Health Heroes and Employee Assistance Programmes . We ensure our managers receive training in how to support colleagues who have a range of health or disability issues and make reasonable adjustments. For disabled workers, these small changes can make a huge difference to their quality of life in the workplace. But beyond this initial duty of care, there’s a moral responsibility to improve workplace equality and support wellbeing for all. Â鶹´«Ã½AV as an employer has the power to take action and will make that happen.
